How to Pack Your Typewriter to Ship to Us
Correctly packing and insuring your typewriter is extremely important to assure safe arrival
Below are the steps we use when packing a typewriter. We recommend you pack the same
We have packing kits available for sale that are precut and include all materials
We recommend you use either USPS or UPS. Fedex does not provide full loss insurance
The boxes, shrink wrap, foam and peanuts are also available at most hardware stores
1) If your typewriter has a carriage lock, engage it now.
2) If your typewriter is a basket shift - meaning the carriage does not rise when the “shift key” is pressed, press the shift “lock“ key now
3) Completely wrap the carriage with stretch wrap or Saran wrap to prevent movement. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE CARRIAGE KNOBS…THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE

4) For Hermes models lock the cover in place and proceed to step 5.
For all other models wrap the typewriter to the bottom of the case. This will prevent the typewriter from coming off the locks inside the case. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE

5) Wrap the entire case closed
6) Cut a piece of styrofoam the same size as box. We recommend an 18” x 18” box
7) Wrap the typewriter and case to the foam board. Wrap in both directions, this prevents shifting during transit
8) Fill the bottom of the box with a minimum of 2” of peanuts
9) Place the typewriter on the top of the peanuts
10) Cut foam sides 2” taller then your typewriter
11) Fill all open areas with peanuts. There should be a minimum of 2” of peanuts on top of the typewriter
12) Cut a foam top to fit the size of box. Place return information on top of foam
13) Slit the box corners above the foam and fold the sides of the box down on top of the typewriter
14) Securely seal box closed, label and ship
